Anfield in Tears as Supporters Pay Tribute to Jota

Grief at Anfield as Fans Mourn Diogo Jota After Fatal Car Crash

Thousands of fans gathered at Anfield to pay tribute to Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died alongside his brother in a car crash in Spain.

Jota, 28, and his younger brother, André Silva, were killed when their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blow-out and burst into flames near Cernadilla, in the Zamora province, around 12:30am local time, Spanish authorities confirmed.

Since news of the tragedy broke, Anfield has been flooded with flowers, scarves, shirts, and heartfelt messages from supporters.

John Barlow, a Hillsborough survivor, described the loss as “absolutely heartbreaking,” adding, “He was like one of us… tough, resilient.”

Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020, had recently married and leaves behind his wife Rute and their three young children.

Former manager Jürgen Klopp said he was "heartbroken" by the news. "There must be a bigger purpose, but I can’t see it," he wrote online.

Liverpool FC called the loss of Jota and his brother “unimaginable.”
