Christmas Light Displays Sparkle Across the North West

Liverpool is switching on the Christmas magic as the city and wider region kick off a packed programme of festive light trails, switch-ons and seasonal celebrations.

From the Royal Albert Dock’s glowing waterfront to Liverpool Cathedral’s spectacular sound-and-light experience, Merseyside is shining bright for the holidays — with events also taking place across nearby parts of the North West in the coming weeks.

What’s happening in Liverpool & Merseyside

17 November — Royal Albert Dock Light TrailThe dock’s popular trail returns, celebrating Liverpool’s maritime past with illuminated installations. Runs until 22 December.

28 November — Light Before Christmas, Liverpool CathedralThe cathedral’s mesmerising light-and-sound show is back for its fourth year. The 2025 theme is “The Gift.” Runs 28 November to 6 December 2025.

14 November — Huyton Village Christmas LightsLive entertainment, lights and festive fun from 15:00-19:00 GMT.

15 November — Southport Christmas SpectacularA day of festive entertainment in the town centre, including a light switch-on and Christmas market.

15 November — Prescot Christmas LightsPrescot town centre lights up from 15:00-19:00 GMT with music and performances.

21 November — Kirkby Christmas LightsEntertainment and festive celebrations from 15:00-19:00 GMT.

22 November — Knowsley Safari Enchanted Light TrailAnimal displays, festive food and a magical light trail return through 23 December.
