Crimestoppers is offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Sam Rimmer, a 22-year-old who was shot dead in Liverpool in August 2022. Sam was struck in the back by a bullet from a Skorpion sub-machine gun on Lavrock Bank, Dingle, while visiting friends.

The attack, believed to be gang-related, occurred at around 11:30 pm when four suspects arrived on two electric bikes. One of the suspects fired eight shots towards Sam and his group. Merseyside Police have emphasized that Sam had no involvement in criminal activity and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

More than two years after the shooting, no one has been charged, although 10 people have been arrested and remain under investigation. Crimestoppers is appealing for information on the gunman, the identities of those involved, and the location of the weapon used.

Gary Murray, Crimestoppers’ North West manager, said despite extensive investigations, the case remains unsolved. Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, the senior investigating officer, noted that the shooting took place amid a backdrop of gang violence in Dingle, linked to drug dealing disputes. Although Sam himself was of good character, some of his friends were on the periphery of criminality, which may have led to the attack.

Police believe they know who was responsible and are seeking the final piece of evidence to secure a prosecution. CCTV footage shows the suspects on electric bikes entering the Dingle area from the city centre earlier in the evening, and officers believe the group was targeting specific individuals.
