Ferry Terminal to Reopen This Autumn Following Delay

Woodside Ferry Terminal Reopening Delayed Until Autumn

The much-anticipated reopening of Woodside ferry terminal in Wirral has been postponed until autumn 2025, following delays in off-site manufacturing.

Originally scheduled to reopen this summer, the project has faced setbacks, according to a spokesperson for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

“Unfortunately, delays in manufacturing off site have resulted in this being pushed back until autumn 2025,” they said, adding that the authority is “working closely with the contractor to minimise these delays by increasing resources.”

Once complete, the upgraded terminal will be equipped to receive the region’s brand-new £26 million Mersey Ferry, expected to be launched by summer 2026.

The terminal has been closed since 2022 to undergo an £8.6 million transformation, part of a broader plan to revitalise the Woodside area.

Alongside the ferry terminal upgrade, Wirral Council is investing in major improvements to the surrounding waterfront and Hamilton Square, which include new cycling and walking infrastructure as well as a proposed U-Boat museum.

Looking further ahead, the area forms part of a sweeping regeneration masterplan that includes 1,700 new homes, two hotels, leisure facilities, and a large outdoor event space with views across the River Mersey.
