Jota’s Sons to Serve as Mascots for Liverpool Clash with Wolves

The sons of the late Diogo Jota will take part in a poignant pre-match tribute when Liverpool face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday.

Dinis and Duarte, two of the former Portugal forward’s three children, are set to walk out alongside the matchday mascots before kick-off as the clubs Jota represented meet for the first time since his death.

Jota was killed in a car accident in Spain in July at the age of 28, along with his younger brother Andre Silva, who was 25.

The Premier League fixture, which kicks off at 15:00 GMT, carries added emotional weight given Jota’s close ties to both sides. He spent three seasons at Wolves before completing a move to Liverpool in 2020.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reflected on the significance of the occasion in his programme notes ahead of the club’s final home game of 2025, expressing hope that the warmth felt towards Jota can offer comfort to his family.

“Looking back over the last year brings a mixture of emotions,” Slot wrote. “At this time especially, my thoughts are with Diogo’s family as they face their first Christmas without him.

“I cannot begin to suggest where comfort may be found, but I hope the love and affection Diogo continues to inspire can provide some measure of solace.”

Jota enjoyed a successful spell at Anfield, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances and playing a key role in Liverpool’s FA Cup and League Cup triumphs in 2022, as well as last season’s Premier League title.

He first arrived in English football with Wolves in 2017 on loan from Atletico Madrid, later making the move permanent and scoring 44 goals in 131 matches before his switch to Merseyside.
