Rail Passengers Face Major Disruption After Points Failure
Rail passengers across the North West faced significant disruption on Wednesday morning following a points failure near Earlestown.
The incident affected services running between Liverpool Lime Street, Warrington Bank Quay, and Manchester, with some trains cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes.
According to a National Rail spokesperson, the fault led to the closure of several lines, though these have since reopened and delays were cleared by around 10:25.
The disruption impacted multiple operators, including:
Northern services between Chester and Leeds, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport, and Chester / Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria.
TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle / Stalybridge.
Transport for Wales services between Chester / Holyhead / Llandudno and Manchester Airport.
National Rail said earlier that journeys might be subject to cancellations, delays, or revised timetables while engineers worked to resolve the fault.
Normal services have now resumed.
