A man has been taken to hospital after being shot inside a café in Liverpool, police have confirmed.
The incident happened on Lodge Lane at around 17:00 BST on Friday, according to Merseyside Police.
Officers said the man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall described the shooting as a “dangerous and reckless act of violence”, warning that others inside the café could also have been seriously injured.
“Firing a gun inside a cafe was a dangerous and reckless act of violence where many more people could have been hurt and led to more tragic circumstances,” he said.
Police said the investigation remains in its early stages as officers work to establish exactly what happened.
Witnesses and anyone with video footage of the incident have been urged to come forward and assist the investigation.
A stop and search order has also been introduced across several areas of Liverpool and will remain in place until 18:59, when it will be reviewed.
The order covers areas including Upper Parliament Street, Smithdown Road, Greenbank Road, North Mossley Hill Road, Queens Drive, Aigburth Vale, Carnatic Road, Victoria Road, Ashfield Road, Aigburth Road, Park Road, Park Place and St James Place.
Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact them as enquiries continue.
