Police have renewed their appeal for information nearly three decades after a 25-year-old man was shot dead on a Liverpool street, with his killer still unidentified.
Daniel Keatinge was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Formosa Road in Fazakerley on the evening of 30 January 2009. Emergency services were called shortly after 7.30pm when residents reported hearing several loud bangs. Keatinge later died at the scene.
Investigators believe the gunman, thought to have been aged between 16 and 20 at the time, fled towards the Eagle Dene area. He was reportedly wearing dark clothing and a black Lowe Alpine hat, and may have had his face partially covered.
Merseyside Police have also asked the public to come forward with any information about a silver-coloured car seen in the area around the time of the shooting. A £10,000 reward was offered in 2014, but the case remains unsolved.
Keatinge was previously known to police and had served a prison sentence in 2003 for wounding with intent after a shooting outside a Liverpool city-centre nightclub, in which two bystanders were injured. Detectives have said there is no evidence directly linking that incident to his murder, but inquiries remain ongoing.
His family have described Keatinge as “no angel” but insisted he did not deserve to die in such circumstances. His parents said his death left them devastated and struggling to cope with their loss.
“He was big-hearted and will be missed terribly,” they said. “We are still in shock and feel like we will never get over Daniel’s murder.”
Detective Superintendent Howard Rubbery, from the force’s Serious Crime Review Unit, said Keatinge’s family were still searching for answers.
“Time has passed, and circumstances change,” he said. “People move on, relationships and loyalties shift. If anyone has information, however small it may seem, it is not too late to come forward.”
At the time of the killing, Keatinge’s family appealed directly to the public, urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to contact police.
“Please tell the police if you know anything,” they said. “We will never see Daniel again, but the truth still matters.”
