Merseyrail passengers are experiencing disruptions as a section of the line has been closed for scheduled engineering works.

No trains will operate between Formby and Southport until 14 October due to track renewal work being carried out by Network Rail, which includes upgrading the signalling systems.

A rail replacement bus service is available between Southport and Formby, stopping at all stations, while trains will continue to run between Formby and Liverpool Central.

Passengers are advised to expect longer travel times and to check the Merseyrail website for updates before their journey.

Merseyrail stated that normal service will resume from 15 October.

These works follow a recent closure for the construction of a new concrete crossing over the River Alt by Network Rail.
