Mysterious 'Big Cat' Figure Spotted Near Wirral Beach Sparks Curiosity
Residents near Wallasey beach in Wirral have been left baffled — and in some cases startled — by a mysterious individual dressed in a full black cat costume seen prowling around secluded coastal paths.
The unusual sightings, which have circulated widely on local Facebook groups, include photos and videos showing the figure approaching passers-by and vehicles in the area, often after dark.
One video, filmed from a car, captures the moment passengers scream as the costumed figure runs toward their vehicle under cover of night.
Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell urged anyone feeling alarmed to contact police. “If people are concerned, they should report it,” she said.
Reactions from locals have ranged from frightened to bemused. One Facebook user described encountering the figure during a dog walk: “I heard a man making cat noises… He started waving his arms at me before crawling up the hill. Never been so scared.”
Another woman, speaking to the BBC, said she was more confused than afraid: “I heard growling in the dark, and then saw a man in a panther costume crawling on all fours. He was waving his arms and making noises — my dog went wild.”
Some residents believe the sightings are part of a prank. “I think it’s just a wind-up,” said one dog walker. “He doesn’t mean any harm — he just enjoys dressing up as a giant cat. Our dog isn’t bothered.”
For now, the identity of the feline impersonator remains unknown — but locals continue to keep their eyes peeled along the coastal paths.
