"New Hub Provides ‘Vital’ Support for Young Care Leavers"

A "vital" support hub has opened in Crosby for young people transitioning out of the care system.

Sefton Council’s new Care Experienced Hub aims to provide a welcoming space for care leavers, offering support in areas such as housing, finances, mental health, and employment.

Councillor Diane Roscoe emphasized the hub’s importance, noting that care-experienced individuals often face significant challenges and even discrimination in areas like education, employment, and housing, and are more likely to experience mental health issues. "This hub is essential," she said, "as it brings together a range of support tailored specifically for them in a space where they feel comfortable, safe, and valued."

The hub will also feature social events, a food pantry, and a workspace where users can make appointments for guidance on housing, finances, and job opportunities. Dedicated teams with specialised knowledge of the needs and rights of care-experienced young people will be available to provide support.

The hub’s launch follows Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram’s recent announcement of free travel across Merseyside for care leavers, further expanding the support available for young people leaving care.
