A primary school has been forced to close due to a burst water pipe that left it without a water supply. Northway Primary School in Maghull, Sefton, sent an emergency message to parents, stating it was "unsafe for children to attend" before the closure.
The burst pipe occurred under the front of the building on Dodds Lane. Although United Utilities repaired the pipe on Monday evening and assured staff that water would be restored by Tuesday, headteacher Kate McKenzie reported that the school still had no water supply.
The school apologised to parents for the inconvenience and the short notice regarding the closure. A spokesperson for United Utilities explained that the leak was located on a private pipe, which is not part of their network.
While they are not responsible for repairs on private systems, an engineer worked to make the pipe accessible for repairs.
Northway Primary School is currently working with Sefton Council to find a solution.
