The future of Liverpool Women's Hospital is set to be discussed at a crucial meeting this week, as NHS leaders propose moving maternity and gynaecological services away from its Crown Street site.
Health bosses argue that relocating services to a larger acute hospital would improve patient safety, citing the need for quicker access to emergency care. Currently, about 220 ambulance transfers are made each year between Liverpool Women's and other hospitals, half of which are emergencies.
The proposal has sparked strong opposition, with campaigns ongoing to keep the hospital at its current location. The long-running Save Liverpool Women's Hospital campaign has voiced concerns, calling for no closures, mergers, or outsourcing, and for improvements to NHS services without dismantling the hospital. The NHS Cheshire and Merseyside board will discuss the case for change in a meeting this Wednesday.
