Tapas Bar Faces Potential Licence Revocation Following Police Concerns

An Ibiza-themed tapas and cocktail bar in Liverpool could lose its licence after Merseyside Police raised concerns.

La Finca Eivissa, located on Back Colquitt Street in Liverpool City Centre, will undergo a licensing review by the city council next week. The review will be conducted by the Licensing and Gambling sub-committee on Thursday, October 24, at The Cunard Building.

The bar, described on its website as offering "Ibizan-inspired cocktails and fusion tapas dishes" in a three-storey, listed building, operates under Tapas Centro Ltd, with Stephen Thompson as the designated premises supervisor. The venue also features late-night cocktail bars, promising a party atmosphere into the early hours, and is linked to Bar Bodega, a popular underground disco and house nightclub.

La Finca Eivissa currently operates from 11am to 2am Sunday to Thursday, and until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. The review was prompted by concerns from Merseyside Police regarding "the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety," although no further specifics were provided in the council’s meeting agenda.

The sub-committee will decide whether to amend the bar’s licensing conditions, temporarily suspend the licence, revoke it entirely, or take no action. The report stresses that if the premises are found to be operating irresponsibly, the committee should not hesitate to take firm measures, including revoking the licence if necessary.

La Finca Eivissa has been contacted for comment, and the meeting is scheduled for 10am on October 24.
