Traffic wardens in Liverpool will soon be equipped with body-worn cameras to address the violence and abuse they encounter on the job, according to Liverpool City Council.
Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs), responsible for issuing parking tickets, often face verbal and physical assaults. To combat this, the council has approved the purchase of 75 body cameras, with an initial investment of £150,000.
The cameras are intended to deter violent behavior and will also allow the public to report incidents of abuse, with the footage potentially serving as evidence.
Training will be provided to officers on how to use the cameras and when to activate them. Additionally, they will receive guidance on communicating with individuals who are visually impaired or hard of hearing regarding the cameras' operation.
Council director Nicki Butterworth noted that the body cameras will enhance safety for both CEOs and the public by serving as a visual deterrent against abusive behavior.
