Atletico Madrid Eye Liverpool’s Andy Robertson Amid Left-Back Reshuffle

Atletico Madrid have expressed interest in Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson, with the Scottish international entering the final year of his contract at Anfield.

The 30-year-old defender, a key figure during Liverpool’s most successful recent campaigns, saw his form come under the spotlight last season following a series of uncharacteristic errors. Now, LaLiga giants Atletico are monitoring his situation closely as they look to strengthen their defensive options.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are planning ahead, identifying Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth as a potential reinforcement on the left side of defence. The Reds are reportedly preparing a move for the Hungarian international, with new head coach Arne Slot expected to rotate Kerkez alongside Robertson if the Scot remains at the club.

Speaking during Scotland’s recent international fixtures, Robertson addressed the competitive nature of life at a top club:

“When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect to have competition. I’ve always faced that and so has everyone in their own positions,” he said. “We want the club to be ambitious — they’re doing that. Wherever we fit into that, if you’re happy with the role, you stay and do it. If you’re not, then I’m sure some people will go. That’s the nature of football.”

Liverpool also retain Kostas Tsimikas as a left-back option but are believed to be open to offers for the Greek international, who has struggled to cement a regular starting role since arriving at the club.

As the summer transfer window progresses, Liverpool’s defensive plans could evolve quickly — particularly if Atletico step up their pursuit of Robertson.
