Low-cost airline easyJet is expanding its winter schedule from Liverpool John Lennon Airport with two new routes to Nordic destinations.

The airline will begin flights to Reykjavik in Iceland from November 2, with services operating Monday to Friday. A second new route to Kittilä in Finland’s Lapland region will launch on November 25, with flights running twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The new routes will add to easyJet’s growing network from Liverpool, where the airline already operates more than 40 destinations and has recently added a ninth aircraft to its base.

Both destinations are expected to appeal to travellers looking for winter escapes and festive breaks.

Reykjavik provides access to Iceland’s dramatic landscapes, including waterfalls, geysers, volcanic scenery and geothermal attractions such as the Blue Lagoon. The city is also considered one of the top locations in the world for viewing the Northern Lights.

Kittilä, in the heart of Lapland, offers visitors a traditional winter experience with snow-covered scenery, Northern Lights tours, husky sledding, snowmobiling and skiing at nearby Levi.

The Finnish destination is particularly popular with families hoping to enjoy a festive trip and experience the magic of visiting Father Christmas.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said the airline was pleased to add the new winter routes from Liverpool.

“We’re excited to be adding these winter destinations to our growing network from Liverpool,” he said. “Customers now have the opportunity to explore Iceland and Lapland.”

EasyJet holidays will also offer package options to both destinations, including return flights and hotel accommodation.

Paul Winfield, aviation director at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said the new routes would provide more choice for winter travellers.

“Reykjavik and Kittilä are exciting additions, offering strong appeal for winter travel and festive getaways,” he said.

“EasyJet’s continued growth here at the North West’s faster, easier, friendlier airport demonstrates the strength of the Liverpool market.”
