Storm Ashley brought strong winds to Merseyside, resulting in fallen trees and damage to vehicles. On Sunday, October 20, the Met Office issued amber and yellow weather warnings for parts of the UK in response to the storm.
As the season's first named storm, Ashley unleashed powerful winds across the region. Although the warning did not include Liverpool, the city still experienced severe weather, leading to flight cancellations at both Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport. Flood alerts were also issued due to high tides expected in the early hours of the morning, affecting areas like Wallasey, Birkenhead, and Hale Village.
In Wavertree, police closed Wellington Road after a tree fell on a bus stop, scattering debris across the street. Several roads were also shut down, including Aintree Lane and Old Roan, where trees had fallen and obstructed traffic.
On Childwall Abbey Road, an eyewitness reported that two cars were damaged by another fallen tree, with images showing one vehicle's back windscreen shattered and the other suffering damage to the front. A small cordon was established around the fallen tree.
According to the Met Office, today is expected to be dry and more settled, with sunny spells and diminishing winds. However, there may still be some isolated showers. Temperatures are predicted to be above average for late October, with highs reaching 13°C.
